Solid performance
ICM enjoyed several notable successes during the past fiscal year. After positive experiences in 2004 and 2008, the prestigious European Society of Cardiology (ESC) once again decided on ICM as its congress venue for 2012 – so Europe’s largest medical convention will take place in Munich for the third time running. In addition, ICM won two of the coveted Conga Awards – the Oscars of the conference world – making it the number one German congress centre in 2009.
So despite the global economic turbulence, ICM was able to build on its past achievements again last fiscal year. Around 130,000 visitors and experts came from all over the world to attend a total of 136 events at the centre. In particular, scientific congresses and conferences planned well in advance to coincide with major trade shows held by Messe München GmbH ensured ICM was able to maintain brisk bookings throughout the challenging market conditions of 2009.
Network Marketing
Our comprehensive networked marketing strategy certainly also played a key role in ICM’s success last year. Numerous concerted activities by the tourist board, airport, hotel sector and ICM give bids by ICM and Munich added visibility and punch at an international level.
Quality as a matter priority Ongoing improvements to the quality and flexibility of ICM’s offering round off our efforts. Our new expert partner, Neumann&Müller, has been helping us set new standards for service delivery and structures since last July, for instance. And Christian Müller, who joined ICM as Technical Director last September, has been focusing on consistent alignment of our portfolio with customer requirements to ensure successful events of every type and size.
2010 outlook A glance at ICM’s calendar for 2010 shows these activities are already paying off. Alongside the 2nd Ecumenical Kirchentag, with up to 200,000 participants expected, highlights of the first half-year alone include annual congresses for the European Psychiatric Association (EPA 2010) and International Society of Nephrology (2010 ERA-EDTA/DGfN Congress) plus the world’s biggest robotics event, the International Symposium on Robotics (ISR 2010), scheduled to coincide with the AUTOMATICA trade fair at the start of June. So at ICM, the course is set for continued success in 2010.
